Tis the Season

Today marked the official beginning of the 2011 Hurricane Season. This got me to thinking about how here in The Big Easy time is not really defined by the terms that I am accustomed to. Instead of Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall, you hear people talk about "Shrimp Season", "Football Season", "Carnival Season", "Crawfish Season", "Festival Season" and now the dreaded "Hurricane Season". Food, fun, and fear (storms) help the locals divide their year into manageable increments since the weather does not conform to the traditional four seasons most are used to.
