No Strings Attached

Brie, AV and I went to see No Strings Attached the other night. We have been seeing previews for weeks and we all tend to be suckers for romantic-comedies (or "romcoms" as they are sometimes called!) Ashton Kutcher was looking sexy per usual and played his typical charming, fun-guy role. It was pretty decent but had a very predictable ending! I might watch it again but I don't know I would want to own it on DVD.

P.S. The movie theater we always go to upped their prices :( It is now $7.50 during the week instead of $5.00

Sunday Adventure

Sunday afternoon I was sitting in the living room watching the Packers play the Bears when I received a text from my buddy Eddie. He asked if I wanted to come shooting, and while I do like my football, I felt no close connection to the game, so I said what the heck! He gave me some vague directions which I half followed but also used Samantha which inevitably led me to driving WAY out of the way around the boonies. Any way, I finally made it to the Southern Louisiana Gun Club where I partook in a round of skeet shooting for the first time! Eddie hooked me up with some rose tinted safety goggles (the pink color was to help make the orange of the targets appear brighter), ear plugs, and a 20-gauge shotgun.

EDDIE: When it isn't your turn, point the gun downward. I will give you your shells. Say "pull" when you are ready. Got it?
ME: Umm, ok. Pull?

To sum it up, I hit the very first "bird" as they called it, missed the next 23 then hit the very last one! My right shoulder is sore and bruised but it was fun. I think I prefer the larger, non-moving target and the smaller, less-painful handguns we used at the shooting range back in the fall!!

The Rum House

Without a doubt, The Rum House restaurant on Magazine Street is my favorite place to grab a bite to eat in New Orleans! My first taste of heaven was in June when I was visiting Brie; we enjoyed some mojitos and watched part of the World Cup there. Then when mom and dad helped me move down we ate dinner with Brie and her parents there. When Whitney came to town we drove straight there from the airport. Zach and Max join us there fairly often as well. We just love it!

The Rum House is a Caribbean taqueria place that makes the best little tacos! (They have a ton of other stuff too, but the tacos rock!) I always get the same thing...some may call that "boring", I prefer "consistent". The "Taco Trifecta" is AWESOME!!! I get the Jerk Chicken, Flaked Fish, and The Carolina tacos. My only complaint to date with The Rum House is that it changed its Coconut Mango Rice recipe and, in my opinion, not for the better. So I have had to move on to other sides.

Needless to say I recommend any and everyone stopping by The Rum House for some fun Caribbean food and a good Mojito!! Check them out at http://www.rumhousenola.com/ :)

Disney Night

Brie, AV, Nick and I were going to go out to the theater, but due to varying tastes we chose to stay in instead. They had all seen The Princess and the Frog before but were totally on board to watch it again! It is based on New Orleans so it seemed relevant and I thought it was a very cute movie with a good message about knowing the difference between what you want and what you need. What a nice little Disney/roommate night :)

King Cakes

Have you ever blown your nose into a tissue and the outcome is a blob of glitter? I have. That must mean it is King Cake season! Sucre started cranking out their version of the King Cake a little over a week ago and therefore I have been knee deep in cinnamon-sugar cakes with icing covered in edible glitter.

They have actually hired a gentleman who comes in around 4:00 each evening to make a batch of 160 cakes. He works later hours so that he can have uninterrupted access to the ovens. I am not 100% clear on the process, but I believe he has to make the dough, let it sit for a day, shape the cakes into their traditional braided circular shape, let that sit for a day, bake the cakes, let them cool, cover them in icing, let that sit for the rest of the night, then one of the ladies sprays and glitters them during the day. The cakes then have to dry from their recent coloring and THEN they are finally ready for the shipping department to add a plastic baby, wrap them in plastic wrap, and place them in a box!

Moving the cakes from the cookie sheet to the cardboard disc stirs up the loose glitter and therefore at the end of the day everything is covered in a fine coating; including my lungs.

Cute Oil Change Guy

I was able to leave work a little earlier than usual today and therefore chose to be a responsible adult and go get my oil changed. This lovely chore has been hovering on my "to do" list for quite some time now. I stopped by a SpeeDee that is on the way home and lucky for me there was a super cute guy working that helped me out. Thinking he was cute only re-affirmed what I already knew about myself and that is that I am definitely attracted to manly men. Construction workers, mechanics, a man in a uniform, really any hard working men. Not to a say a guy in a business suit is not a hardworking person, but he is much less likely to turn my head than one of the aforementioned dudes. I prefer Carhart and boots to Polo and loafers any day!

What To Do? What To Do?

For weeks now I have known what my Sunday plan was going to be: wake up, function, watch football, go about my business. It has been an enjoyable routine that is occasionally thrown due to a Monday game or a Bye Week, but none-the-less, it has stayed fairly consistent. Well, it is Sunday and the Saints played their last game of the season yesterday. (They lost to the Seahawks 41-36...the worse team ever to make it to the playoffs...don't get me started!) Sure there are other games on and I may flip to them throughout the day, but the Saints won't be back until the fall. It is kind of a sad day, and the rain doesn't help.

Comfy Heaven

Some days there is just absolutely nothing better than crawling into my big, super-soft bed and balling up in my comforter. *sigh* That is all :)

Softy

Sure the commercials for the orphans in Africa bother me, and it upsets me to see or hear about folks being abused. But nothing pulls on my heart strings more than the sad Sarah McClaughlin and Willie Nelson commercials about neglected animals. I can't watch them, or even hear their songs--I change the channel or mute the TV. Just a softy for animals I suppose.

And We're Off

Welp, 2011 is chugging right along. It was back to work this morning for me. Before starting back to the routine again I was able to enjoy a fairly lazy weekend filled with movies, hanging out and football! Last night AV and I watched Easy A (cute movie about a high school girl who ends up with a bad reputation based completely on a lie). I really like Emma Stone, I think she is going to have a nice career! And Stanley Tucci is quickly becoming one of my new favorite actors! Prior to deciding which movie we were going to watch AV sprawled out in my floor and covered up in his big comfy blanket. Yes, there is a full grown man in that pile:
